Estate administration
The legal process of settling the affairs of a deceased person — entitling a personal representative to sell or transfer assets, settle debts and distribute to beneficiaries.
Probate
The validation of a deceased person's Will — entitling the named executor to administer the estate in accordance with it.
Do you need to get a Grant?
Unless the estate is very small, a Grant will be required. Where the deceased held any land or property in their sole name, a Grant is required.

The role of an executor (or administrator in the case of an intestacy where there is no will) includes protecting and preserving assets until they can be legally distributed, distributing assets to the right individuals, discharging any debts and dealing with tax affairs. Estate Administration with International Element
Assets Located Abroad
If part of an estate is located abroad a foreign Grant of Probate may be required. This may require an Irish Grant to be resealed in that jurisdiction. We frequently see this if there is a US or UK based shareholding and work with Solicitors in overseas jurisdictions.
Non-Resident Deceased
Individuals who resided abroad may still have assets here which need to be administered. We assist overseas solicitors and executors in obtaining Irish Grants and guide on taxation matters.
